Designed by John Madin, Birmingham Central Library (or the Ziggurat as it is also affectionately known) opened in January 1974 and was for a time the largest regional library in Europe. In 2010–11 it was the second most visited library in the UK with over a million visitors. It was closed in June 2013 and, despite attempts by English Heritage to list the building, demolition began in 2015.
One in a series of nostalgic travel prints celebrating the unique but often forgotten beauty of some of our favourite modernist and brutalist architectural projects from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's.
